What a B2B Agent May Quote (2026)
Quick summary: Quote the customer's contract price, or say you cannot. A $5,000 auto-issue figure in the field guide is a placeholder, not your cap. A person still sends the quote. The public catalog is not the contract.
Key Takeaways

- A B2B buyer asking for a price is asking for their price

A B2B buyer asking for a price is asking for their price. The public catalog is a different number. An agent that “helps” by quoting list price has not saved the rep time. It has written a contract the price book does not support.
This is part 8 of AI Agents for Business. The build note is AI Quote Agent. The wider sales job is B2B sales agent. The commercial page is Sales and B2B.
The job. Draft a quote from the customer price and from stock you can actually promise. Do not issue it when the gate says no.
This week. Match the account. Call the customer-price tool. If it does not match, stop with no dollar figure. Draft under your real cap. A person sends the quote.
A person still signs. Over-cap quotes, custom terms, credit-hold accounts, restricted SKUs, and any price that is not on the contract.
Skip it when you only have list-price APIs, or when finance will not name a cap and an approver.
The field-guide gates use $5,000 and $25,000 as placeholders. They are not a measured win rate and not your policy. Put your numbers in CPQ. Leave the blog numbers in the blog.
Copy the gates — Draft versus issue:
b2b-quote-approval-gates.md. The $5,000 line is marked as a placeholder in that file. Replace it before you enforce it.
FactualMinds is an AWS Select Tier Services Partner. We have no published agent case study that claims quote-win rate moved.
Our take: no account match means no price. Quoting list “so the buyer has something” feels helpful. It is how you get held to the wrong number.
What it may say
| Situation | Say | Do not say |
|---|---|---|
| Account and contract price exist, under your cap, standard terms | The drafted lines, and that issue still follows your CPQ rule | “You’re confirmed” |
| No account match | We cannot price this account from here | The public catalog as if it were net |
| Credit hold | A person in finance owns the hold | A released hold, or an issued quote |
| Over the cap or custom terms | A draft and the name of the approver | An emailed quote |
Credit hold is not a quoting footnote you clear in chat. Who may release it is its own note. This agent does not gain that write.
What to use instead
- List price only. Do not start. You will ship the failure mode above.
- You need every gate. Quote agent and sales agent.
- The buyer is really asking where the last order is. That can be a read. It is still not a new price.
If you only do one thing
Block quote issue when getCustomerPrice returns nothing. If the model can fill a dollar amount from the public catalog, you are not quoting. You are guessing the contract.
For your technical lead
On June 17, 2026, AgentCore Harness reached general availability (What’s New). Agents Classic is in maintenance for new customers after July 30, 2026. Net-new quoting should not start on Classic. Bedrock is the model. CPQ is the system of record. The host does not issue the quote by itself.
A buyer token may describe an RFQ for their own account. It does not approve terms, and it does not read another account’s net. That cross-account leak is already the failure mode on the account-manager brief.
What broke — A draft went out at the public price because the customer-price tool was missing and the prompt said to be helpful. The quote post’s rule is the fix: fail closed, hand off, no list price standing in for net. The $5,000 row in the gate table does not prevent that. A missing price tool does, if you refuse to invent the number. Placeholders are not a control.
What to do this week
- Confirm the price tool returns a contract price for a known account and nothing for an unknown one.
- Replace $5,000 and $25,000 with your caps, or leave issue on a person until you do.
- Add credit hold to the “do not issue” row. Point release at finance, not at this bot.
- Open Sales and B2B after the gate table is filled with your numbers.
- Do not report the placeholder caps as a policy you adopted from us.
What this post doesn’t cover
It does not retell reorder cadence, onboarding credit, or the full RFQ field list. Those stay in the field guide. It does not set your dollar cap. $5,000 and $25,000 are placeholders, repeated here so nobody promotes them to a standard. It does not publish a quote-win rate.
Primary next step: Sales and B2B Agent.
